My Journey in the Audiovisual World

From Early Experiences to Professional Training

My name is Lorenzo Fratino, born in Parma in 2001, and my journey into the world of audiovisual arts has deep roots. During high school, I developed a passion for visual storytelling, even though I initially lacked a clear direction

However, by my second year, I realized that the multimedia field was my ideal space for expression. Thanks to the opportunity to experiment provided by my school, I was able to learn the fundamentals of photography and videomaking. Every exercise and project was a discovery, an additional piece in building my professional future.

Gradually, I developed a particular sensitivity toward visual storytelling, understanding that video is not just a recording of reality but a powerful medium for conveying emotions, ideas, and deep messages. By my third year, I was dedicating extra hours to perfecting my shots, independently studying directing and lighting techniques. I closely analyzed short films and movies, trying to replicate shots and lighting schemes with the equipment available to me.

One project that particularly influenced my growth was a school documentary in which I experimented with visual storytelling through interviews and environmental shots, discovering the power of images in narrating authentic stories.

Specialization and In-Depth Study

In my fourth year of high school, I decided to focus exclusively on video production—a choice that proved crucial for my future. The hands-on approach and access to professional equipment, such as Skypanel Arri lights, backdrops, and dedicated editing spaces, represented a unique growth opportunity.

My dedication was recognized to the point that my audiovisual professor allowed me to use the studio in the afternoons for my personal projects. This freedom pushed me to deepen my knowledge of pioneering video artists such as Nam June Paik, Bruce Nauman, Fabrizio Plessi, and Bill Viola, further strengthening my creative vision.

At the same time, I began participating in small competitions and independent projects, connecting with other young creatives to exchange ideas and collaborate. Direct experience and interaction with like-minded individuals played a key role in my artistic and professional development.

Academic Experience and Career Path Choices

After earning my diploma in audiovisual and multimedia studies, I pursued a program at the Academy of Cinema in Lucca, intending to specialize in editing. However, I soon realized that this field did not fully reflect my aspirations, and after a year, I decided to leave my studies to focus entirely on working in the industry.

My family has always supported my choices, but my father presented me with a clear crossroads: continue with university studies or start earning through my work. This push motivated me to move to Milan, the heart of Italy’s audiovisual industry. It was a risky but necessary choice because I knew that the best way to grow was to challenge myself directly in the field.

Entering the Industry and First Collaborations

With determination and the savings I had accumulated during summer jobs, I secured a position at Borotalco TV, a production company with offices across Italy. Thanks to the trust of Matteo Stefanini, I had the opportunity to actively enter the industry and gain significant experience

By the age of 21, I had already collaborated with internationally renowned artists and major brands. Some of the most notable names I worked with include Central Cee, Marracash, and other key figures in the Italian music scene. Working in the music industry taught me how to handle tight deadlines, complex productions, and diverse artistic demands, refining my adaptability and problem-solving skills.

After two intense years in the music sector, I felt the need to expand my horizons further, seeking new challenges beyond Italy. During this period, I had the chance to work on advertising productions, music videos, and documentaries, engaging with increasingly diverse realities.

International Expansion and New Opportunities

At the age of 22, I took another major step forward in my career by seeking opportunities abroad. I found a company based in Turin that allowed me to work with high-profile clients, including members of Arab royalty, and to travel extensively worldwide.

This experience opened up new creative and professional horizons, confirming my ability to adapt to international contexts and manage high-profile projects. Working in multicultural environments refined not only my technical skills but also my interpersonal and managerial abilities, which are crucial in a competitive industry like audiovisual production.

At 23, I look back on my journey with a mix of amazement and determination. I started in a small classroom, experimenting with my first equipment, and have since worked on international productions and collaborated with top-level figures. Every obstacle, from initial uncertainties to professional challenges, has helped shape my professional identity. Reflecting on the path I have taken so far motivates me to keep moving forward, knowing that many challenges lie ahead and new opportunities await.
